Define your message and refine your magic in this 5 day intensive for any yoga teacher with a 200 hour certification under their belt. If you’re feeling stuck or uninspired, or if your teaching practice just needs a little boost of creativity, this workshop is for you! Also great for those who have completed a teacher training, perhaps a long time ago, and need a friendly push to get out there and start sharing what you love. Here’s what we’ll cover...
Your Back Pocket Class: Through practice teaching, group discussion and teacher feedback we’ll work on polishing one perfect, go-to class that you can take with you anywhere. It will be an instant classic in your repertoire!
Cutting The Fluff: Teaching and speaking simply means offering only that which is purposeful and sincere. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of teaching too many fancy flows and filling class with fluffy yoga speak. We’ve all done it! Here we will work together on getting to the heart of the practice and sequencing in such a way that less becomes more… more profound, more intelligent, more accessible.
Finding Your Voice: It’s important for yoga teachers to constantly check in and ask themselves why they are teaching and what they are teaching. When we become clear about what our intention and message are, then it is easy to create classes that are eloquent and skillful. Asking thoughtful questions and sharing our hopes and objectives with each other will help get to the heart of the matter.
Mythical Sequencing: You'll get the family tree of deities, captivating stories and mantras galore but the real focus here is how to craft classes that are poetic and sincere. Learn how use the stories of yoga to deepen your understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of the asana practice. We will use worksheets and group discussion to analyze Hindu myths and then you'll practice pulling out important themes to use in your teaching.
Taking Care Of Business: Teaching workshops, self promotion in the age of social media, and getting your message out into the world will all be covered.
Teaching Inversions To People Who Don’t Like Inversions!: Learn Kelly’s simple step-by-step method of teaching handstands for everybody, plus tips and tricks on how to make upside down poses less intimidating to students.
Harmonium Happy Hour: If you want to learn basic harmonium, you’ll get the nuts and bolts! If you’re a more experienced player you’ll leave with a few new chants in your pocket. And if you don’t want to play the harmonium, that’s great too! Everyone will benefit from learning how to share and explain chants with their students.
Kelly's classes are musical, poetic, and deeply spiritual. She is known for her storytelling and her ability to make the philosophy of yoga relatable, to bring big subjects into an every day perspective. Expect a challenging and creative flow, plenty of great music, a dose of philosophy, a bit of chanting, and definitely some laughter! She is honored to study with and be influenced by many great teachers including Dana Flynn, Raghunath Cappo, Joshua Greene, Cyndi Lee and Douglas Brooks. She is also endlessly exhilarated by poetry, clouds, the Bhagavad Gita and the deep wisdom of her 8 year old guru Milo.
